Pippa Molony is a versatile musician whose work spans various genres, though her focus is primarily on electronic and experimental music. She frequently collaborates with renowned Irish producer Rory Sweeney, and following the release of her dark, ethereal ambient debut single Angels, Pippa is set to unveil her debut EP Hungry Ghost in the coming months.
The six-track EP, Hungry Ghost, draws inspiration from Irish folklore, dreams, the natural world, and themes of self and spirituality. Each track showcases forward-thinking, experimental electronic production by both Sweeney and Molony, accompanied by otherworldly, dream-like vocals. The EP explores the concept of consumption, with the title referencing the Hungry Ghost in Tibetan Buddhism—a being who roams the earth, always consuming but never feeling satisfied.
“Having established herself as a filmmaker working with the likes of Aby Coulibaly, Ahmed, With love., EFÉ and more, Pippa Molony is making her first step into sharing music of her own. Her debut single ‘Angels’, is produced by Rory Sweeney and lands alongside a video made in collaboration with Cormac Campbell and Cian McCarthy.
Ambient, folk and electronic coalesce in the new cut, with Pippa’s vocals running parallel to the instrumental’s gradual release. Pulling inspiration from old folklore, the video for ‘Angels’ is the result of hours of digging through Dúchas.” — Dylan Murphy, District Magazine, December 2023
