Pastel is a multifaceted artist—a self-taught musician, songwriter, and producer—who truly embodies the full spectrum of an independent artist.
STORY
With roots in French and Polynesian culture, Yann (aka Pastel) was immersed in the music of the French archipelago through his mother, and R&B through his sister. He first discovered his passion for music while recording on his grandfather’s tape recorder.
Yann's journey into music production began when he found himself in the studio with his former band, recording tracks. This ignited his exploration of different musical styles, helping him shape his distinctive sound, now recognized as Pastel. His fusion of Polynesian, Brazilian, and African influences set against modern, house-driven atmospheres creates a unique sonic identity that resonates globally.
LIVE
During his decade living in London, Pastel built a solid reputation as a live performer, which led to appearances at numerous events and festivals. Opening for FKJ in Asia showcased his talents as a multi-instrumentalist. In 2023, Pastel introduced his first hybrid live show, blending live bass performances with DJ sets. His initial performances at festivals in the UK and Amsterdam’s Dance Event at the famous ADAM TOWER confirmed the success of this new format, setting the stage for 2024.
STUDIO
In the studio, Pastel has collaborated with notable artists like Bazzi, Bon Entendeur, Adi Oasis, and Jarreau Vandal. His track Ecstasy, with Fabich and Jafunk, amassed over 40 million streams, bringing him significant attention.
At the end of 2023, Pastel signed his track Cabo Player with Helix Records. A cover of Chicago’s famous Street Player, the track went viral on social media and was featured by major brands and sports teams, including FIFA World Cup, Manchester United, British Airways, BMW, and The Michelin Guide. With over 120k videos and a reach of more than 200 million, it dominated Instagram charts and received radio and TV airplay in the UK.
Following this, Pastel released a cover of George Benson's Give Me The Night, surpassing his previous success on Instagram with over 130k participatory videos and 200 million reach. His concept of "on-the-fly" covers, showcased in his videos, has garnered massive engagement on social media.
In 2024, Pastel is gearing up to release a new 5-track EP on Helix Records, Patrick Moxey’s new label (Ultra Records).
Pastel believes that "music becomes the public's once it's released." This philosophy has attracted significant brand collaborations, including Logitech, Roland, and JBL.
