When Filmore! burst onto the scene in the summer of 2022 with the genre-blending track ‘Where’s Your Hall Pass?’, it was initially attributed to Maximus Filmore, a fictional school safety patrol officer known for taking his duties a bit too far, as depicted in the accompanying video. The true identity of the artist was soon uncovered as Max Zanga, and it was revealed that the music was part of a broader project commissioned by the Dublin Fringe Festival. This project embraced the absurdity of contemporary life, focusing on themes of power and violence through immersive storytelling. Zanga was honored with the George Fitzmaurice Award for experimental art for his installation that merged striking visuals with an exploration of youth and nostalgia.
The debut mixtape Filmore! was a commentary on the absurdity of modern society, featuring ultra-violent themes in tracks like the previously released "Fuck ‘Em Up" (200k+ Spotify streams), the pop-punk collaboration "Ingrid’s Song", and the standout single "Where’s Your Hall Pass". This mixtape received notable support from Spotify’s Misfits 2.0 playlist, New Music Friday, The Lockdown, as well as Tidal’s Rising UK & Hyper Amped. It also garnered praise from The Line of Best Fit, Earmilk, District, and Hot Press, earning him the moniker “Gen Z Tyler The Creator.” His live performances included appearances at Ireland Music Week, Other Voices, and All Together Now, along with curated events across Dublin.
Filmore! will collaborate once again with his creative partner racecarbed for a new project, Idle, set to be released via Earache Distribution later in 2024.
