Fehdah, often described as the spiritual successor of Erykah Badu and Oumou Sangare and a futuristic counterpart to Peggy Gou, is a rising force in Ireland’s burgeoning hip-hop and electronic music scenes. As a vocalist, producer, and multi-instrumentalist, she blends elements of Wassoulou music with electronic soul, creating a distinctive and genre-defying sound.
Her work has been widely recognized for its innovation. As Gal Dem noted, "Fehdah is crafting her own genre," while The Quietus highlighted her track "Butter Fly" as an electrifying mix of instrumental grime and Afrofuturist electrosoul. The Irish Times echoed this, praising her music as "worthy of many respins."
After her debut EP Like No Other premiered on LA’s KCRW in 2017, Fehdah performed alongside Grammy-nominated acts like Nai Palm, Thundercat, and Hiatus Kaiyote. Her pioneering sound, which she calls "Sahelian-Electrosoul," continues to evolve. Notably, her single Saharakungoh, released in 2019, merges contemporary electronic music with traditional instrumentation, embodying the Afrofuturist spirit.
Her recent single, Butter Fly, released in April, stands out as both a lullaby and a battle cry for women, blending mythical references and fierce vulnerability. With a touch of 90s R&B harmonies and Krio syncopated verses, Fehdah solidifies herself as a trailblazer in modern Afrofuturism.
