Anemoia began on a bedroom floor in 2019, founded by 16-year-old Gerald Higgins in Co. Mayo. Drawing early inspiration from artists like A.R Kane, My Bloody Valentine, and Current Joys, the band released their debut album, Driving Songs, a shoegaze portfolio featuring Roland TR-505 loops and ethereal looped guitar pieces, all crafted between 2019-2021. This debut served as an essential introduction to their sound, marking their presence before further evolution.
After achieving niche success on Soundcloud, Anemoia expanded into a 4-piece band in October 2022, now based in Dublin. Their debut show at the Workman’s Cellar that same month sold out, and they have since supported numerous well-known Dublin acts, headlined various venues across the city, and were featured at the 2024 Whelan’s One to Watch. They also sold out their most recent show at the same venue. With their latest single crutch released in November 2023, Anemoia has big plans for 2024, evolving their Wall-of-Sound by incorporating Slacker and Noise Rock elements, while drawing lyrical inspiration from film, poetry, tales of grief, and the human condition.
